Problem: According to my survey, parents are not educated enough to help their children during his/her schooling years. This problem exists from the early years of our modern world and it possesses it even these days. That is why I have conducted my own survey and proved that a half (a bit less than a half) of the students were not able to receive proper support from their parents. Considering the fact that we study in the top 1 university in Kazakhstan, I am afraid to know the situation of other children.
I started my PSA with another mini film which shows students' concerns and how they stress about different kinds of problems (parents as well). The main plot is that parents aren't aware that their children experience anxiety. This scene was made primarily to get the viewer's attention and the focus is on pathos. Then I switch to the scene where I show the statistics of NU students which received proper help. The focus is more on the ethos and less on the pathos. In the next few scenes I make a focus on pathos again, by displaying white text on the black screen. Then the focus is on the logos, where I present my solution. As it's said in the video, I suggest people to sign up to the special programme, where specialists educate parents how to interact with children. In the end, the focus is on the pathos and my advocacy where I show how people can sign up to this programme (via email).
Modalities and Design choices
During this video I used a lot of modalities, such as smooth transitions. They were mostly presented as fade in/out effects (Media production readings p.30). Also I used it on the last scene, when I wanted to show the main text, while the other things were a little bit faded. I also used many animation techniques when I presented my survey, while displaying people in different colors to make statistics more clear. While people were on the left side, I showed an icon (UPD) of the survey and the percent of people which received help. Basically, I just used left-right corner alignment technique (UPD). The colors were chosen according to triadic technique (UPD). The main color was grey (my background), the other colors I chose using this technique. During the whole video I've been using centered-text alignment to show the most important information or when I wanted to make a focus (UPD) of the audience.
Reflection
I had a lot of fun while I was editing the video since I've acquired some experience after our DN assignment. So, it wasn't that hard as I thought at the beginning. The most difficult part was the search for the proper data. That's when I decided to create my own survey among NU students. In the end I'm very glad that we have experience with DN as some fun videos, while the PSA is something more important/useful for people.
P.S. I made a survey in our private university group and you won't be able to open the link to this poll. That's why I will put a screenshot of this survey in the reference list.
